I mostly remember Graves from Airplane. I forgot that he was in the giant grasshopper movie “The Beginning of the end”  until I saw the trailer for it at Senski’s Heart in a Jar today. Me and my brothers used to love that movie (along with Them!) I believe there was an effect towards the end which was simply a bunch of grasshoppers walking across a photograph of a building!!! I have not seen it since I was little, I’ll have to check it out again soon. R.I.P.

I remember him from the original “Mission Impossible” series as it was shown in re-run syndication on TV when I was a kid.  Of course I also remember him from “Airplane” (“Have you ever seen a grown man naked?”)  The sci-fi movies that he did (“Parts: The Clonus Horror” & “The Beginning of the End” ) I saw via MST3K but I’ve seen “It Conquered the World” on local TV in the 70’s.  He will be missed.

And let’s not forget back in the day when the A&E channel actually stood for Arts and Entertainment, and Graves hosted Biography with the kind of pitch-perfect class the channel (and television in general) is now so sorely lacking. His voice was one of the most distinct on record.

He’s in a great Golden Girls where he’s this emasculated newscaster that Blanche sets her eyes on.

I loved him in the made for tv movie Where Have All the People Gone, and boy do I remember him hosting those bios. He did indeed have a golden voice.

Thank you for the linkage, Unk. Beginning of the End was one of the first I showed to my movie group in Chicago – I’ll never forget the shot of the grasshopper walking past a photo of Wacker Drive, and one of the kids shouting, “Hey, I work near there!” Maybe Peter’s passing will also get a DVD release for Scream of the Wolf – it’s been ages since I saw that.

Erg, I forgot he was in “Where have all the people gone?” That’s a great one Amanda! !!

They filmed part of that in our local grocery store when I was little and lived in California!
Senski, Thank YOU for the great post to link to!

I remember you metioned they shot Where Have All The People Gone around you. That’s so awesome. I have an online friend who lived near where they shot Condominium and got to see Barbara Eden in person. Did you get to catch a glimpse of any of the cast?

No, all I remember is when the movie premiered on TV it was a big deal and my parents gathered us all around the TV set to see “Our store”. I thought the movie was fascinating though, the people turning to piles of dust in their cars? I loved it. I’m so glad we had those couple of years in California in the late seventies because whenever I see anything filmed around that time in that area it all reminds me of being little.
