Name That Trauma :: Reader Kelly G. on a Maggot Filled Teddybear

November 16th, 2011 by aunt john · 5 Comments

When I was about 7 years old, I was watching T.V. and I thought the movie was about a leprechaun who wanted the family’s gold. But I was so scared I kept changing the channel back and forth. It’s definitely not one of the LEPRECHAUN movies. For all I know this could have been two separate things, but it’s been bugging me for years.

There was a scene where a girl lays down on her bed and goes to reach for her teddy bear and it bursts open and maggots come out. I’m not the only one who remembers something similar. Might have seen the same thing, but I’m not sure that it is from GOOSEBUMPS. I’m guessing late ’90s or earlier.

Thank you!

Kelly G.

I’m very curious about this one. I did find more than a couple references to it out there but nobody seems to know the answer.

I can hardly believe it, but I know this one (and no one else seems to). This was from an episode of the tv series spinoff of Honey I Shrunk the Kids.
The leprechaun in this episode is terrorizing the family, and one prank he played I found particularly cruel. He does his own little rendition of When a Stranger Calls to the daughter by calling her and asking “did you get the Winky?”, Winky being her favorite childhood teddy bear. He calls a second time asking the same question, and this time, when she looks at Winky, it’s erupting in larvae. Didn’t help my fears of maggots, thank you very much.
Szalinsky tries to reassure his family that this is all very logical and in no way caused by magic (haha, science!), but the leprechaun doesn’t take kindly to his arrogant logical thinking.
Thanks for bringing up a trauma that i had nearly forgotten myself (you reeeally shouldn’t have).

Good going Bloodylocks Bathory!!! I thought this one might be hopeless.

And big thanks for tracking down the clip Chopmeup!

The daughter who finds the maggot bear was also on Hang Time!…

OMG, sorry I’m so late. But you guys are geniuses! Seriously I never would have been able to find that.
