Name That Trauma:: R. Wray on a Murdered Desert Well Ghost

August 22nd, 2012 by unkle lancifer · 4 Comments

As with many of you I have a memory of watching a TV show in the 70’s but cannot put a name to it. I have always believed that it was from Tales of the Unexpected but I cannot find a matching description in any of the episodes. It concerns a man who has been murdered by his wife and she, along with her lover hide the man’s body in a well. His ghost then terrorizes them. It’s set in a desert-like location (possibly the southwest). I remember that his body was possibly wrapped in cloth prior to being lowered into the well.

Thanks for any help & love the site!

This sounds an awful lot like “Empire of Passion,” ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077132/ ) minus the desert local: however, since it is a Japanese film, there is a very good chance that it was remade in the US under a different title. It is an awesome, atmospheric film with some eerie scenes that will haunt the viewer for a long while after seeing it. Even if it isn’t this one, you should watch it anyway.

I’ve got a crazy wild guess that it might be an episode of Ghost Story titled ‘Time Of Terror’… but I’m basing that on some VERY hazy memories.
There are a couple of Ghost Story episodes that center on bodies in wells… so I might be confused.

I just bought the GHOST STORY/CIRCLE OF FEAR dvd and there is definatly a story involving a dead husband in a well. It might be the episode called “Death’s Head”.

I have an old box set of Ghost Story and those are not the mystery episode. Good stories though. The Summer House is creepy and involves a dead husband in the well. Recommended.
