Name That Trauma:: Atys of Demon Tribe Hollow on a Creaky Record and a Hitchcock Murder Confession

May 21st, 2013 by unkle lancifer · 13 Comments

Dear Unk!

I can’t tell you how long I’ve loved your site, but it’s been quite a while now, and I can’t stay quiet any longer! May I submit for your approval my own (two!) Traumafessions?

First one is sure to confound and confuse, as it’s about as obscure as I think one can get. It was a childrens’ record album released about 30 years ago that concerned the noises a house makes. I believe its purpose was to reassure young people that the creeks and groans one might hear at night were not, in fact, perpetuated by spirits of those long dead. Of course, all that did for me was present the potentiality that they might easily be mistaken for such.

Now, in my late thirties, I *want* to hear this evidence of a proper haunting, though three decades ago, of course, I was quite terrified of the idea. Anyway, all I have for anyone to go on is the fact that I think the record was one of those “plastidiscs” or whatever. (You know, the floppy, colorful kind.) It had a colorful, illustrated jacket, depicting I think a young boy and his dog with a cutaway of the support beams of an average 70’s home.

But alas, my memory of this is very, very foggy, indeed. Hence, any help at all would be immensely appreciated, without a doubt.

And there is just one more thing that will likely be far easier to unearth. That is, an old “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” episode that began with a man admitting his role as a murderer. All I remember is this character looking straight on into the camera, discussing his dastardly deed in somewhat shady detail, and ending with the line “That’s right, I’m a murderer.”

Please, please someone tell me what episode this could be, for I’m nearly more desperate to find this out than the “noises a house makes” record.

Yay! Thank you so much, Unk! So grateful to finally having a decent shot at gathering a solid lead or two in pursuit of my kindertraumas. I have to admit it would be a humbling revelation to discover that someone was paying more attention during their younger years to this kind of stuff than I was. Fingers crossed that a helpful voice makes itself heard, as it’s been a decades-long search for me…

Truly, and that is no understatement! Psychonator, I have no idea how you did, other than some kind of insanely refined Web searching. That is, indeed, the missing aural bit of my childhood that I remember most.

It’s incredible that you found it, Psychonator, and I am tremendously grateful.

Made me realize, actually, that I wanted that more than the Hitchcock thing. I’d still nearly poop myself (in a good way, if that’s possible) if someone was able to come up with that episode, but Psychonator, Kindertrauma & Unk have completely floored me this evening already.

I don’t think I’m overstating things when I say that I’m going to remember this rediscovery so very fondly for an incredibly long time.

Thank you so very much. — ∆☩Y§ ☨♆∀☥✠

    Still can’t believe it. ☨♆∀☥✠

But you know I think the biggest shock for me is that apparently my parents (or someone close to me, anyway) had me eat that rot grub that is Jack-In-The-Box when I was very young.

Should I sue for child abuse? ☨♆∀☥

Glad I could help out. I’d like to say I’m a google Svengali (?) (maybe a Google Nostrodamus? A Google Einstein? A Google Ghandi? I know: a Google GURU) but I merely used the search term: “Noises a house makes!” I was too intrigued to let this one go.
I was disappointed that the whole comic / record wasn’t included. I was unable to find the whole thing.:(

Well whatever you did, you caught what I missed, and for that I’m crazy grateful.

With regard to finding the whole thing, I’m having some luck tracking it down via eBay. But now that I know what it is and that it still exists, that’s basically the whole battle right there. Thank the evil lord for collectors. ☨♆

I think the episode of AHP you’re looking for is “Arthur”. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0508127/
I caught it on some local channel a few weeks ago, it’s an episode that makes an impression! Although I wouldn’t be surprised if there was more than one episode that started that way.

Well I just don’t know what to say…

I’ve been looking for that episode for over twenty years!! And I never forgot the introduction, only the title.

MacReadyforaction — I can’t even begin to thank you enough. And Unk — I’m absolutely blown away by the knowledgeable-as-hell people you have running around this wonderful site!

MacReady — thank you, truly, from the innermost depths of my soul, for that kindertrauma resolution. And if your name is a “The Thing” (1982) reference, then I say “well done, sir, well done”. That film has been in my top five since childhood, though lately KT has had me thinking, “Wouldn’t it be awesome if some philanthropist gave Carpenter and Bottin ten million to totally redo the final fight with the Blairmonster?”

Awesome, I think, that would be. Anyway, thank you so much Psychonator, MacReadyforaction, and Unk. You’ve easily made my month, and with my birthday coming up, this is seriously more than I could have asked for. ∇

thanks, dude! It was just a matter of luck, having watched it randomly on tv. :)

thanks for noticing the Thing reference too! It’s a favorite of mine as well.
