Name That Trauma :: Reader Jes K. on an Offscreen Cat Splat

May 14th, 2010 by aunt john · 3 Comments

I just found your site and OMG, thank goodness! Maybe someone can help me Name That Trauma!

When I was little, I watched some show…it seems like it was a made-for-T.V. joint, but I don’t know for sure. All I remember is that near the end, some bully kids walked up to the main character’s cat and said, “TJ, is this your cat?” and then threw it into the street into the path of oncoming traffic! It didn’t show the cat being hit or anything, it was all off screen like the shooting of BAMBI‘s mother. But I’ve carried that scene with me for YEARS and I can’t figure out what show or movie it came from! PLEASE help!

Love the site, and thanks in advance!

Jes K.

UPDATE: NAME THAT TRAUMA SOLVED!

I believe this could be the CBS Children’s Hour Movie J.T. from 1969.

You’re thinking of “J.T,” a 1969 TV movie. I found it on You Tube in parts. http://www.youtube.com/user/JTClarion#p/u/3/xqjtmp3F6GQ  The scene you’re thinking of starts at about 5:30 into part IV

Jes K here….yes, you guys are completely right!  Thanks for clearing this up for me.  It has been on my mind since I was very young…I think I saw it when I was between three and five years old, sometime in the late 70’s and early 80’s.  I had no idea it was made in ’69.
I was terrified to relive that movie scene but I forced myself to, and it’s not nearly as bad as my brain made it out to be.  I’m almost 34 now, so I’ve had many years to make this worse in my head.  LOL!
The positive is, now I know why I started rescuing cats in adulthood.  Ha ha
Thanks again, commenters, and Aunt John for posting it…finally helped me figure this traumatic mystery out!
