    3. The Burning
    9. Let’s Scare Jessica to Death (I’d know that mustache anywhere!)

#9 Is Let’s Scare Jessica To Death…I am at a loss on the other 9

  • 3 ChrisNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 9:29 am

    Ouch. I only know two…

I only know what Mickster knows already, #3 is the Burning and #9 is Let’s Scare Jessica to Death (gawd, I adore that movie). I’m only posting because I need attention. 🙂

Hi Amanda! Let’s Scare Jessica to Death is wonderfully creepy! 🙂

  • 7 TaylorNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 10:38 am

I love Let’s Scare Jessica To Death…Something about the locale and the photography make it seem sort of like a 70s laundry detergent commercial*, but with creepy ambiguous weirdness going on around the edges.

    * or maybe a Mamas & The Papas music video?  I’m still searching for the right analogy.

I agree, Taylor! The soundtrack is very effective too. I remember watching it as a little kid and being very frightened. I introduced my husband to it a couple of years ago and now he is a fan too. It has a dreamlike quality about it.

9 Let’s scare Jessica to Death = Mickster and Thunderknight at the exact same time!

Well, I said it was going to hard this week!
    Here are some hints…
    1 Mausoleum toothbrush
2 “Sandy, you’re the only person I know who can make “Yes, Ma’am” sound like “screw you”.

4 This shot is from a film within the film. The two main characters in this film also appeared in “The Killing Kind”.

5 A major inspiration for “Friday the 13th”

    7 Englund Alligator

8 “Did you know that the germs can come through the wires? I never call and I *never* answer. It’s a good way to get sick. Very, very sick… That’s how I got so sick! SOMEONE CALLED ME ON THE TELEPHONE!” (Note: This used to be my outgoing message on my answering machine!)

10 A gruesome secret, protected for generations, rises to give its…

    Also…

I agree with all the praise and love for Let’s Scare Jessica to Death! What an amazing movie and it’s got a vibe all it’s own. While looking for that screenshot it, was almost impossible for me not to get instantly wrapped up in that movie again.

    2. The Fog

  • 11 micksterNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 11:28 am

    8. Sisters

  • 12 micksterNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 11:35 am

    10. Deadly Blessing

  • 13 lottie_of_millhavenNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 11:47 am

    5. Isn’t “Twitch of the Death Nerve”? is it?

Also, I got really excited thinking that 2 was Paperhouse, but alas…

  • 14 magiredNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 12:03 pm

    7 eaten alive?

  • 15 TaylorNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 1:54 pm

So (assuming that mickster, lottie and magired are correct above), all that are left are #1 and #4, right?
#4 in particular seems really familiar to me.  As for the hint on #1, Mausoleum Toothbrush was one of my favorite metal bands in the 80s but I don’t remember them ever doing a film soundtrack…

    Two more hints:

    1. Psycho 2
    4. Monkey library

  • 17 TaylorNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 2:00 pm

    1. One Dark Night?
    4. The Attic?

  • 18 TaylorNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 2:05 pm

OH HELL, that toothbrush. That’s my fault, “mausoleum” and “Psycho 2” led me to the answer, I’d forgotten about that girl with the kooky toothbrush affectation until I’d zeroed in on it.

  • 19 unkle lanciferNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 2:07 pm

Taylor gets the last 2!!!Good job Taylor, I was worried that nobody was going to get the Attic!

Thanks to everybody for playing and Mickster, you were on fire today!!
I don’t think I can pick a top 3 today, there are too many of my favorites up there!

  • 20 TaylorNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 2:17 pm

I think I can do a top three…Only by eliminating Evil Dead 2 because I’ve seen it so damn many times.  So my three would be The Fog, Let’s Scare Jessica to Death, and The Burning.
Speaking of The Burning, and by association the “Cropsey Maniac” urban legend, I just heard about this documentary called Cropsey today:

.  There are some pretty good reviews online…It’s a true-crime thing, but also deals with some urban legends and looks kind of creepy.  The trailer almost makes it feel like a “Blair Witch” kind of mockumentary, but from what I’ve read it is all real.

Sad story: I showed Let’s Scare Jessica to Death last year to my fiance and two of my closest friends and they were bored! I couldn’t believe it. I was disappointed in their disappointment…

I love the Attic. I think Unk has mentioned this movie before. Wow. It’s so sad and weird.

  • 22 lottie_of_millhavenNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 2:36 pm

Whew, as far as top three goes…(In no real order)

    1. Twitch of the Death Nerve.  What a fun, weird, violent film!

    2. Let’s Scare Jessica to Death.  I actually only recently saw this one, but I was awed.

    3. The Fog.  Nothing needs to be said.

  • 23 micksterNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 2:39 pm

My top three would be Let’s Scare Jessica to Death, The Fog, and Evil Dead 2.
Amanda, I had the same disappointment with a friend last year. He thought it was terrible and I though he was nuts!

  • 24 jlynn323No Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 3:14 pm

Wow, I actually watched 3 of these this week.  1 is from “One Dark Night”, 3 is “The Burning” and 10 is “Deadly Blessing.”  What are the odds of watching multiple “Name That Trauma” flicks in the same week?

  • 25 Amanda By NightNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 3:18 pm

Mickster, what are we to do? We need to take those who can’t spread the Jessica love and school ’em on good horror or something!

  • 26 godmonsterNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 6:33 pm

Number 7 was the only one I knew, and it would be my favorite too. I saw Eaten Alive several times in the theater. I love the garish lighting, some weird freak-out scenes, gory murders, fun cast. Great low budget rubber alligator goodness!

  • 27 FatherOfTearsNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 6:48 pm

OK, one day I’ll be home on a Friday BEFORE this is online!  Stumped on most of these but #8 which is “Sisters”.

  • 28 unkle lanciferNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 8:06 pm

Godmonster, I love the look of Eaten Alive too. All that fluorescent neon and it almost seems like a stage play sometimes, very unique.

  • 29 thunderknightNo Gravatar // Jun 18, 2010 at 10:37 pm

Jessica is a wonderful atmospheric terror tale that anyone who loves terror tales should enjoy once a year. The Burning is Miramax and the Weinsteins first movie, awesome! Evil Dead 2 will always be one of my favs and I own Image version of the uncut Twitch…really cool Bava flick!
