Name That Trauma:: Dustin in Minnesota on a Bullied Golf Ball Retriever

September 5th, 2013 by unkle lancifer · 7 Comments

Greetings again!

In addition to the Traumafession I just shared, I am looking for the title of a film short trauma, also shown frequently on HBO, during their Short Takes (or, “Something Short and Special”, depending on the era).

It involved a boy who would wade in a lake near a golf course, retrieving and reselling golf balls. Some teenaged hippies came by and started hassling him, and threw his boots (that he had left on the shore) into the lake. Later, he came back and the hippies were hanging out and laughing with their friends, sitting on the grass. The boy put their car into neutral and pushed it down the hill, into the lake. The boy then later seemed to feel bad, almost on par with “The Boy Who Loved Deer”.

It was the bullying by older kids that scared me about this short, as I was sometimes picked on. Does anyone else remember this? Was it an episode of Inside/Out (which has been unfortunately pulled from YouTube)?

Speaking of a Kindertrauma…those screenshots from “Over the Edge” bring back memories. I remember watching that as a kid and found it really disturbing. Especially the scene where the girl is playing around with a gun and pointing it at the her friends.

“Over the Edge” was a great flick. I found the gun disturbing too, especially when Karl pretended he was shot.

“My Bodyguard” was a great bullying flick, too.

On that note, the short I am thinking of was not either of those two movies.

Was Inside/Out on Youtube? And I missed it… damn! That show still haunts me… but whenever I search I find nothing about it.

It was on YouTube until maybe a month ago. It got pulled and its poster’s account was terminated. He had every episode on his channel, along with episodes of Thinkabout.

There *is* (or was a week ago, anyway) one episode, “Bully”, still available, given the MST3K treatment by a different poster. I haven’t watched the whole thing yet, but the first few minutes were pretty funny.

For those still interested, Inside/Out is apparently back on YouTube, at least for now.

Here is a link to a playlist:

I finally found it! The film I described above was the 1971 film short “The Huntsman,” and it is FINALLY available on YouTube.

I remembered it slightly different than it actually was. The “hippies” who tormented the young boy were apparently affluent youth with long hair who drive a trippy-hippy car.

The film is available at the follow link:

I haven’t posted in a while, but I just wanted everyone to know this mystery has been solved!
