Sunday Streaming:: Doomsday Alert!

April 28th, 2013 by unkle lancifer · 18 Comments

Christ on a cracker! I was looking at my Netflix Streaming queue for something to spotlight today and I was shocked to see that tons of my favorite flicks are slotted to expire on May first! I have no idea why but apparently a grand scale purging of epic proportions is about to take place! It’s very upsetting when I consider all the movies that are not available on other formats! Oh the humanity! Kids, you have to jump on these movies while you can! You never know when Netflix is going to… (I’m making a slashing across my throat gesture with my finger and then rolling my eyes and sticking my tongue out to represent death.)

BLOOD AND LACE (1971)
I know I’m always gushing on this one but it’s one of my favorite finds and it is greatly responsible for my falling in love with the possibilities of Netflix Streaming! Full review HERE.

SUGAR HILL (1974)
Luckily this one is on DVD. I’m still going got to give it a shout out though for it also brings back fond memories of my early days of discovery with the betrayer known as Netflix. Full review HERE!

SCREAMTIME (1974)
Ack! Not available on DVD! This is a fun anthology of short films one of which concerns garden gnomes that come to life! It also features a video store from way back in the early days! Must see. Full review HERE!

I START COUNTING (1969)
I don’t think this one is on DVD either! Jenny Agutter is in this movie! If that name means nothing to you…get lost! Weirdo! Full review HERE!

10 TO MIDNIGHT (1983)
This one is pretty easy to get a hold of but I’ll just mention it anyway as a gentle reminder that if you haven’t watched it yet, you should. I know it looks like an action flick but its heart bleeds sticky, icky ‘80s slasher blood! More HERE!

BLOOD GAMES (1990)
Just watch this trailer and realize this is your new favorite movie…

Plus I noticed these babies are splitting too… AMOK TRAIN, OPEN HOUSE, HOUSE WHERE EVIL DWELLS, COMMITTED, DERANGED, VAMPIRE CIRCUS, BLOOD CREEK, THE FALLING (aka ALIEN PREDATOR), SQUIRM, THE EVICTORS, RAW MEAT, WITCHFINDER GENERAL, THE BEAST WITHIN, INITIATION OF SARAH, BLACK CAT (‘89), QUEEN OF BLOOD, THE DUNGEONMASTER and even ROLLER BOOGIE and who knows what else! THE APLLE too!!!! Egad No!!!!! Not THE APPLE! This is a nightmare! CRY FOR ME!!!!!

I hope I am chicken little and understood this expiration date wrong! I think everyone should watch THE APPLE today anyway….

I think it’s a MUST that everyone watch the first few minutes of “Roller Disco!” Classic!

And I forgot PANGA aka The Curse3: Blood Sacrifice is on the chopping block too. I just finished watching it. They should have called it “I Walked with a Humanoid from the Deep!” Christopher Lee and Jenilee Harrison together at last. Another one that is not on DVD.

    OMG OMG OMG!!!

The Curse 2 is one of my all time favorites! I had no idea they made a part 3!

    THANK YOU Unkle Lancifer!

I’ve been trolling your site for some time now. I actually have a short little childhood movie trauma I was thinking of the other day…

All I remember is a young girl or boy, around 15-18 years old, is in a jungle somewhere, abandoned. What freaked me out as a kid is that the child falls asleep, and when he/she wakes up, flies have laid eggs under his/her skin. The child scratches at the bumps/sores, only to have maggots start coming out of the skin!

Does that one ring a bell for anyone?

    Thanks again!!!

    Darkko,

    I love CURSE 2!

I think I’m going to watch Contamination.7 next. It’s also known as TROLL 3 and CRAWLERS!

I found a full list of the movies expiring here…

    http://instantwatcher.com/titles/expiring/1

    It’s a long list!

I’m really going to miss BURN WITCH BURN!

Your maggot trauma sounds familiar or maybe I’m thinking of something else.,,

We’ll put a Name That Trauma up of your description and hope somebody knows! :)

I don’t know how the rights issues work for some of these movies, and/or how Netflix chooses which ones stay and which ones go and when, but I know that they are made available again sometimes. Last fall I had started planning my Halloween movie-watching around Silver Bullet being available on Instant, then when Halloween actually rolled around it was gone…And now it’s back. This might not be the last we see on there of some of these titles (hopefully).

I hope you’re right Taylor! I noticed that many of the movies expiring that I watched had the MGM logo so I’m wondering if some deal has run its course.

Btw, I highly recommend 1987′s soon to depart “Interzone “with Bruce Abbott for this scene alone…

    Uncle Lancifer,

    Sweet, thanks!

Wow, I just checked my instant queue and there are exactly 50 titles expiring on May 1st!

Just added Contamination 7, Burn Witch Burn, and Interzone. Thanks for the suggestions!

HOLY HELL! Just looked at the list. There’s another chunk of titles expiring at the end of May.

Contamination7 takes a long while to get going but once the radioactive roots start attacking it’s something else. It’s very much like TROLL 2 so I’m surprised nobody has capitalized on that.

I also noticed JAWS OF SATAN is leaving. That’s another wonderfully insane movie! Here’s our old review….

Darkko – thanks for the heads up! After May 1st I’ll star working on the next batch to go.

This list is really helping with my usual indecision on deciding what to watch!

This is kinda cool. Somebody posted Jaws of Satan hosted by Commander USA…with commercials!

  • 11 TaylorNo Gravatar // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:44 am

I just noticed that among today’s expiring are all of the Frankie & Annette beach party movies that my household has been enjoying.

    This means war.

    Taylor,

It’s a Netlflix holocaust and this date is going down in history! Notice that i am the only blogger brave enough to report about it as it happens!

I watched another one on the chopping block last night- “Secret Screams” otherwise known as GRAVE SECRETS (1989)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097456/

Hmmm. This one is strange. Half the cast was doing a comedy and the other other half were in a serious drama. But you do get to see a headless ghost turn into a zombie with a new head and then later explode!! And a floating egg! And a floating koala bear stuffed animal! It’s kind of fun-ish… at least as far as movies about infants being buried alive go.

I watched if for Lee Ving and Oliviia Barash but Paul Le Mat, David Warner and the lady from Spetters and Eve of Destruction are in it too! I really want to watch EVE now.

Watching Contamination 7, half asleep. AWESOMENESS!!! Love the whipping sounds from the tree branches.

I wonder if these titles will be purged at 12AM Eastern time? I need to watch Curse 3!!!!!!

  • 14 unkle lanciferNo Gravatar // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:03 am

    Darkko,

Haha! I had to use my iPhone and record the cop getting attacked by roots and the scene with the old lady in the barn!! Her dubbed screams are priceless!

  • 15 unkle lanciferNo Gravatar // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:07 am

Another one going away is SCARECROWS (1988)

Here is a review for that one from way back in 08!

I fell asleep watching Contamination 7!

So, I wasn’t able to sit down until about 10PM to watch Panga. It was pretty cool, looked like they put a good amount of effort into making it. I looked it up and was surprised that they actually filmed in South Africa! Definitely no Curse 2 though! Hahaha…

I did really enjoyed the bit at the end when the voodoo priest is hiding in the cane field and the lady throws the lantern in his general vicinity and he ends up running around, back and forth, fully engulfed in flames! Classic!

Ok, so it’s 12:20AM, and I figured I’d see if I could re watch the end of Contamination 7, only to see it and the other films set to expired just disappear off my queue as I was looking right at it!!

    AAARGH!

This is truly a sad day in Netflix history. I’m bummed I didn’t have more time to check out some of the other titles.

It’s at times like this I feel the need to play this sound effect:

    http://www.hark.com/clips/zgcjjfqsmb-sad-trombone

    Or, Taps…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1u-BHllPxs

What’s even stranger, is that hackingnetflix.com is usually all over things like this. There’s not one word about this massive purge of titles?!

  • 17 unkle lanciferNo Gravatar // May 1, 2013 at 8:08 am

What!!!!???? I can’t believe they pulled the movie while you were watching it! That is an outrage!!!! Netflix streaming is a cruel, cruel mistress….and so rude!

I think I fell asleep during Contamination.7 too! I have no memory of it ever ending. RIP!

Luckily I own THE APPLE on DVD.

Update: Some of the ones they added on May 1st had been on there before and previously yanked from the inventory. I saw that Dead End was back on there, and it started up from where I’d left off 6 months ago. So that gives me hope that we may one day see our dearly departed brethren from The Great Purge once again.

Of course, they only added maybe a couple of hundred (if that) titles yesterday, after a purge of something like 1,800…And in the press I’ve read about this, the major highlight of the May 1st adds was Mission: Impossible II. Nice try, Netflix.

Actually, no…That try was not very nice at all.
