This brings back so many good childhood memories of my neighborhood CARVEL. Its not there anymore:(
We used to get all my birthday cakes there (Those cookie crub fillings kicked azz!) You could give them a picture of just about anything (Smurfs, fairie princess) and those geniuses could put it on a cake!
We also used to get Robert and Robin rabbitt for Easter. My parents never bought Dumpty The Pumpkin, Winnie The Witch or Huggy The Whale though.

I had a best friend whose father most of the time had absolutely NO sense of humor BUT he could do a dead-on impersonation of Tom Carvel’s voice so he would chase us around her house going “Hey, kids, dont you wanna buy my ice cream???” Too funny.

You know I never had Carvel, but they used to have this fantastic ad where I grew up that made me drool every time we watched it. I was too busy going to Swensons for my ice cream. YUM! I am SO hungry now!

Several Years ago somebody bought me a ‘Cookie-puss’ for my birthday, and a guest had the audacity to reach for the ice-cream cone nose.

Terrible etiquette…

I think even as a kid I liked that he (Tom Carvel) did his own commercials. It had a homey “I’m Your Neighbor” feel to it. How did he die, I wonder? If I had to guess it was a really bad carton a day habit (cigerettes, not ice cream)

Never had a Carvel. Was it a Northern thing? A Southern thing?

The imagination in the shape of the cakes is amazing. So lifelike. So real.

Being from a small town in Pac NW (one that’s about 2 hrs away from both Portland and Seattle), I’ve never had Carvel, either.  Don’t know if it was ever available here.  Have heard it referenced on both The Office & Family Guy.  Next time I’m in the NE visting the inlaws, I will hunt one down.

Well, I just checked the Carvel website and the nearest store is in Reno, some 580+ miles away.  There is also one in California that’s 666 miles away.  To quote Count Floyd, “oh oh, scary”.

It always blows my mind that different parts of the globe have different franchises. I’m in Queens, New York and growing up had a choice between BASKIN ROBBINS (“hard” ice-cream) or CARVEL (“soft” ice cream).  For me to imagine a neighborhood without a CARVEL? Is mindblowing! But then again I have never seen a PIGGLY WIGGLY, a DAIRY QUEEN, a SONIC (I THINK they have them in Long Island) and the nearest FRIENDLYS is a good hour and a half drive for me.  When my mom goes on trips she actually makes people stop everything if she sees something like PIGGLY WIGGY or CRACKER BARREL or such because WE DONT HAVE THOSE…and if she doesnt jump out of the car and try that sh!t RIGHT NOW she may miss her chance forever! I’ll never foget the first time we went to Arizona and saw a CIRCLE K (like 7-11 only BETTER cuz they sell booze!) and a KMART (everything you want in One Glorious Oasis!) we were totally freaking out!

Oh Mama, Dairy Queen, Cracker Barrel, and Sonic are awesome! Too bad you don’t have them there. Have you ever heard of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts? They are too great for words, but I try to avoid them so that I don’t get fat. I live in the South and I don’t go to Piggly Wiggly. When I was little, there was a Piggly Wiggly in my town that we shopped at occasionally.

To Mama, I had never seen a sonic when I was a kid either until I moved here to Colorado. I couldn’t imagine living without a DQ though… When I lived in Michigan, some of our 7-11’s DID sell booze haha. I always thought that was weird myself. I curse you Mickster, for now I want Krispy Kreme!!!

Maybe its cuz I was raised on DUNKIN DONUTS, I dont find KRISPY KREMES appealing! My father feels the same way. I think we’re loyal to DUNKIN’ DONUTS. I always get my daughter’s class munchkins on her birthday and I always buy a 12 pack of donuts on family members birthdays and Christmas day. The only thing that sucks about DUNKIN DONUTS is the leftovers: The next day the donuts feel like somebody let all the air outta them!
