Name That Trauma :: Reader Cara on a Fatal Football

OK, so I am trying to help my friend solve his trauma. These are all the details I have:

He saw it in the mid-to-late ’90s but that doesn’t mean that is when it was made. No help there I guess.

There were kids involved, under some sort of mind control/body snatching. At one point there are football jocks, and one throws a football that turns into some sort of weapon by way of some TERMINATOR 2 looking silver liquid. The weapon then kills someone.

We know for sure that it isn’t THE FACULTY or DISTURBING BEHAVIOR. Any idea what it could be?

Cara

UPDATE: NAME THAT TRAUMA SOLVED! Kudos to reader Ben Sher for naming it with PROM NIGHT III: THE LAST KISS!

Thanks E.E!

Eric E. let us know on Facebook that he thinks it may be Graduation Day…

“Can’t connect with Facebook, but from doing a little research on imdb, it seems that the most recent trauma (Fatal Football) is from a 1981 movie called “Graduation Day.”

“In one murder, a teen is killed by an American football with a sword stuck through the middle.”

I was thinking of that one when I heard about the football but I’m not sure it fits with the sci-fi Terminator 2 element….

My wild guess was “Class of 1999” but I could not find anything to back that up!

In any case I have just made it my new mission in life to see “Class of 1999 2: The Substitute”…

I don’t know that it really includes mind or body control (although it *is* about a co-dependent relationship between a high school student and a seductive, murderous ghost)–but PROM NIGHT III: THE LAST KISS has a scene with a fatal football that, to my memory, matches the one that you describe. It was also on USA a lot in the mid-’90s. I couldn’t find the whole scene on YouTube, but there’s a brief clip in this trailer (at 0:44)

Yes Ben, you got it! Clearly my friends memory was fuzzy on some details, but you got it anyway. He is super thankful to have that mystery solved. And, now I want to watch Prom Night 3 and Class of 1999. Thanks you guys!

I didn’t recognize this one, but when reading about it all I could think of was basketball + Anne Ramsey’s head = EXPLOSION.
